BITA Home
BITA innovation award is a platform in recognizing and encouraging creativity and excellence. It is a platform to boost and identify individuals, organizations and companies whose innovations move us toward knowledge based economy. Through its annual awards competition, it provides concrete evidence of improving the quality of life. The key players of BITA will help to encourage serendipity through sharing ideas and building relationships and connections. This platform will serve as a council to discuss the possible applications and likely implications of the newest technologies in context to our national needs. It will help to dissipate useful information into the related audience and resultantly provoke action. This environment will help the better things to start happening sooner and better than they might have. BITA will act as a virtual think tank and a leader whose members will be focused on the science and spirit of bringing any technology to be dreamt of, into reality.
It will be for the best innovators from the categories within the information technology arena. It will be given for innovative work having the greatest likely impact on the local industry or international research. These awards will serve both as a way to honor those innovators, and promoting a culture of indigenization.
Objectives:
- To establish a communication channel between academia and industry to disseminate knowledge and to enhance cooperation for fostering innovative ideas and products
- To increase cooperation, dialogue and opportunities among professionals, entrepreneurs and innovators for the benefit of the society
- To experiment and guide the mainstreaming of innovation plans both for the academia and the public/private sector
- To create and flourish creative cluster by planning, supporting and assistance of budding entrepreneurs
- To help in invigorating economy by encouraging skilled individuals to translate their efforts into business settlements
- To promote social and economic development of society by leading knowledge transfer
- To provide a platform that enhances wider acceptance and acknowledgment of Pakistan’s high engineering standards
- To attract entrepreneurs with innovative ideas that will motivate upcoming generation into engineering career
Award Categories
BITA would be awarded in the following three categories:
Students:
- Enrolled in any public/private sector university or degree awarding institution, and
- Has developed a prototype or proof of concept having a strong impact on society, relevant to the needs of Pakistan and/or has pivotal contribution in area of information technology
Faculty Members:
- Full-time faculty member of any public/private sector university or degree awarding institution, and
- Has developed a prototype or proof of concept having a strong impact on society, relevant to the needs of Pakistan and/or has pivotal contribution in area of information technology, or
- Addresses new research challenges and opens new avenues for future research
Industry Professionals/Self Employed:
- Full-time employee of a registered company in Pakistan, and
- Has developed a prototype or proof of concept having a strong impact on society, relevant to the needs of Pakistan and/or has pivotal contribution in area of information technology, or
- Identifies and implements changes in presented project/product as per need of the problem domain to improve operational efficiency or effectiveness
Entry Qualifications
A contestant of BITA must qualify and/or agree to each of the following:
- The contestants should hold Pakistani nationality.
- The Project/Product Idea must have a strong relevance to the needs of Pakistan.
- Any Project/Product Idea who is a winner of a grant/award from any other national/international agency will not be eligible for this award.
- Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
- Each entry must fall within only one of the award categories (Student, Faculty, and Industry).
- If improperly categorized, an entry may be moved to a different category based on the recommendation of the judging panel, without consent from the contestant(s).
- Entries received after the deadline will not be considered.
- The contestants in each of the respective official award categories will have to provide the proof of their studentship; affiliation and employment respectively (see Table 1 below for more information)

- Each entry must provide a primary contact for BITA who will have to provide the consent letter, stating willingness, from all the other member of the group.
- To evaluate an entry, the judges may ask for additional information for further use.
- The contestants are responsible for fulfilling the legal/procedural requirements of their organization for applying for such contests.
- The decision of the judges will be final.
- BITA reserves the right to rescind any awards or entry, granted to honorees/contestants that have misrepresented their product/proposal.
- BITA reserves the right, in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Call for Entries due to circumstances beyond the control of BITA organizing committee. Should the Call for Entries be terminated prior to the stated closing date, BITA reserves the right to announce winners based on the nominations received before the termination date.
- BITA reserves the exclusive right to set, modify, and interpret all conditions regarding this competition without claim for damage or recourse of any kind.
- A contestant selected as winner gives BITA permission, without compensation, to use the provided details/data in promoting this or similar award programs in the future.

Completeness
- Objectives and outcomes are concrete and clearly stated
- Literature survey is relevant and complete
- Project plan and intermediate deliverables are provided
- Timeframe provided realistic
Technical Merit
- Strengths and weaknesses of the solution are known and clearly highlighted
- Techniques used for solution are clearly described and justification for using these techniques is provided
- Progress made in that direction and positive results achieved so far
- Capability of project director and/or project team to achieve the project, as shown by their CVs
Relevance
- Relevance/Importance to Pakistan
- Impact on society
- Problem definition
- Impact and viability of the solution
- Commercializable aspects of the project clearly stated
- Does the proposed product/solution address the current and future needs of industry/society
- plans for producing, marketing, distributing and diffusion of the developed products/solutions provided and adequate
- Does PI have prior industrial experience and/or research papers in the proposed project domain or does the PI have prior experience of handling projects
FAQs
Who can contest for the award?
The contestants should hold Pakistani nationality.
What should be the main focus of innovation?
The Project/Product Idea must have a strong relevance to the needs of Pakistan.
Can I contest for award, in case I already have funding from any other source?
Any Project/Product Idea who is a winner of a grant/award from any other national/international agency will not be eligible to contest for this award.
What happens in case of incomplete application form?
An entry is qualified for judging only when all required sections of application form have been completed and the subsequent request for any relevant documents have been answered properly. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. BITA is not responsible for follow-up of incomplete entries. If you are unsure if your entry is complete, please contact us.
What are the main categories of the applicants?

What happens if I put project in improper category?

A project/product idea cannot be submitted in more than one of the official award categories.
What about the entries submitted after deadline?
Entries must be submitted via the official entry process and before the deadline. The entries received after the deadline will not be considered for the award.
Who will be responsible for copyrights and trademark issues?
The contestant(s) will be responsible for any copyrights and/or trademark issues.
Is there any proof required for the affiliation?

Who will provide consent letter incase more than one person are participating as a group?
In case the contestants are participating as a group, one of the members of the group will lead the group and will be the primary contact for BITA. He/she will have to provide the consent letter, stating willingness, from all the other member of the group. In case of any complaint in this regards, the contestant(s) will be rescind from the contest without any prior notice.
Will there be any additional information required?
To evaluate an entry, the judges may ask for additional information for further use.
Who will be responsible for the legal requirements?

What happen if the online submission system comes under malicious attack?
In the event a virus compromises the competition, non-authorized human intervention, tampering, or other causes beyond the reasonable control of BITA, which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness, or proper operation of the Call for Entries, BITA reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Call for Entries. Should the Call for Entries be terminated prior to the stated closing date, BITA reserves the right to announce winners based on the nominations received before the termination date.
What kind of rights is reserved by BITA for future awards?
A contestant selected as winner gives BITA permission, without compensation, to use its name and photograph/likeness and/or entry in promoting this or similar awards programs in the future.
